ABSTRACT
The present study has as a general objective to understand the criticisms built by Friedrich Nietzsche on democracy and its relations with Democratic School Management in Brazil. And as specific: contextualizing democracy in terms of its concept and history; to interpret democratic principles when confronting Nietzschean thinking; to analyze Brazilian Democratic School Management from a Nietzschean perspective. Reading, understanding and relating the ideas about Democratic School Management, presented in bibliographic and documentary studies, with Nietzsche’s criticisms of democracy, required a unique methodological path. At each moment of the research, the methodology revealed not only abstract interpretations, but a school reality that needs to be constantly re-analyzed, due to the political and institutional contradictions that directly affect democracy. Even though legally supported, school management has historically been shaped according to bourgeois democratic principles, adapted to a meritocratic bias that reflects the resentment of some and the joy of others.
