The place of research in the Professional Master's Program in Education

ABSTRACT

This paper discusses the place of research in the Brazilian Professional Master's Program in Education. In the first part we recover part of its history, which is marked by a movement of resistance and distrust by the academic community. Then we try to show the similarities and differences between the Professional and the Academic Masters, emphasizing the relevant place of research in professional training. Taking as reference the professional Master's Degree in Education: Education of Teacher Educators from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC SP), we describe what has been done to connect research and pedagogical practice in the curriculum of the program. Finally, we present an analysis of the final master papers defended by graduate students, which discloses topics, methodologies and results of the studies, allowing us to assess the achievement of the desired objectives.
