Rural normalist teachers training with agricultural mentality in a brazilian federal technical school (1954-1961)

ABSTRACT

This paper proposes to analyze the rural teaching course offered at the School of Rural Teaching Licurgo Leite (EMRL) located in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in the technical level 2, which was offered between the years 1954 to 1961. The objective was to analyze the training for rural teaching offered to women, within the defined period. This is a qualitative study, whose corpus was constituted from school documental sources, normative referring to the rural teaching course, as well as publications from the Revista da Campanha Nacional de Educação Rural (CNER). As a result, it concludes that the training of women offered by EMRL applied the pedagogical principle “learning by doing”, in which rural education was included with the objective of training rural teachers, who, in addition to teaching in the classroom, would transfer basic educational notions which modify the living conditions of rural communities with the support of teaching innovative agricultural techniques.
