Social uses of photographs in school environments intended for young children

This paper discusses the uses of photographs in school environments intended for young children in São Paulo, focusing on the period between 1990 and 2002. Using the sociology of image and historiographical studies as a theoretical support, it explores the photographic practices, which are quite common in such spaces. These are thus perceived as documentary sources that constitute at the same time a research object and a subject that educates looks, transmits values and social norms in addition to revealing much on the teaching practices and knowledge related to young children.
