Possible meanings of the research on teaching practices: ideas to contribute to the debate

Trying to stimulate the debate on "teachers as researchers" in Brazil, this article searches to discuss some possible meanings of this type of inquiry. It brings up to the debate some questions, such as: What are the possible meanings of "teachers as researchers?" What are the main difficulties and challenges in order for teachers to develop inquiry in their schools in Brazil? What is the relevance of this type of research in order to introduce innovations into the curriculum and teacher education? Speaking of teacher education, would not be the emphasis on research another arbitrary choice that might be neglecting other also relevant professional possibilities?
