Social representations of music: allies or limits for the development of music education?

The present work aims at tackling the perceptive phenomenon present in the negotiation processes of the meaning of music. Such negotiation processes are mediated by symbolic and representational processes, as Moscovici presented them in his social representation theory. In this perspective, music education practices are products of the social representations of music and can approximate or separate teachers and students.
