: Starting from a discussion on the controversial concepts of modernity and post-modernity, this text is an attempt to highlight the ideals and achievements of modern society in two increasingly complementary areas in the socialisation process of new generations: those of education and communication. Considering the growing importance of the communicational phenomenon in our globalised and technified contemporary society, education is required to serve as mediator between the child and an environment populated by ever more "intelligent" machines. Using as theoretical basis the necessary and inevitable integration of new information and communication technologies into education field, the author attempts to mark out some paths towards an innovative view of teacher training which is indispensable for an improved schooling today and tomorrow.
