Teaching work in the city of natal: profile and psychosocial risk

ABSTRACT:

The precariousness of teaching work in the contradictory Brazilian educational context can lead to illnesses. This research sought to identify conditions and perceptions of the teaching activity, as well as psychosocial dimensions and risks of the teachers’ work in the elementary schools of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, establishing profiles and relations. A socio-professional questionnaire and an instrument for evaluation of psychosocial work environment were used. Psychosocial risk regarding teaching activity has been identified, as well as an association with the variable “solitude” at work. These results indicate the need for resources that reinforce the collective dimension in facing challenges, besides the fight for better working conditions.
