School cultures, childhood cultures and family cultures: socialization and schooling in the intertwining of these cultures

This paper seeks to articulate the impasses in child schooling and the contributions on the childhood, family and school cultures in our contemporaneous societies. It proposes to explore the new dimensions of being a child and living a childhood in this historical moment and to rethink school socialization by crisscrossing the school cultures, considered legitimate, and some family and childhood cultures still considered illegitimate. Knowing childhood and family cultures helps to widen our understanding of Brazilian children and suggests another possibility of building a pedagogical project that intertwines school, childhood and family cultures in our contemporaneous society. We can only formulate an "education of quality" if we establish quality indicators socially shared among these three discourses.
