The current debates around the Brazilian higher education are faced with the challenge of finding solutions to racial inequality in students' access and maintenance. Some public universities have already taken action and established racial or social quotas in their admission process. However, these experiences have provoked significant controversies. To explore the discussion on racialized politics and their arguments, this paper analyzes two of its most polemic issues, the complex equality concept and the racial identification it demands, and describes their impact on the United States universities.
