Considerations about the trade sector: profile restructuring and trends

This paper aims to provide some reflections about organisational and technological changes in the trade sector. Lately, it has increased the number of people employed in this sector which, such as other sectors, is promoting meaningful changes in the labour process. Thus, as study on this sector is justified because of this importance in the employment creation. It is important to know how, this employment is created in this sector, who occupies these and what skilfulness the trade sector demands of its workers. In the trade sector case, where the type skill previously demanded was simple, I has been verified that the restructuring ¾ either taking into account the cases related to the management changes or those in which have been adopted new technologies, or both cases ¾ occurred without becoming the work more complex and therefore, without promoting a skilfulness increase on the workers involved. The trade case, in which simple tasks are prevailing, suggests that the skilfulness previously demand is a major variable for the reflection about the implications of the restructuring in the relation to the occupational profiles.
