World bank financed projects for Brazilian basic education

On the context of the external debt crisis, education has been conceived of as an integrant part of the set of economic reforms. The World Bank financed projects for Basic Education are thus included in the loans for structural and sectorial adjustments. Such loans share characteristics and are aimed to support the institutional and economic reforms and rationalize public sector investment programs. In the 1990s, the financed projects for Basic Education, which supported and guided the politics to face school failure (dropout and repetition), considered the evaluation and competition process and the criteria of quality, economic rationality and productivity.
