Teacher training in Brazil: 10 years of struggle among training projects

This paper analyses the policies of teacher training focalizing on the Directives on Teachers' Initial Training for Basic Education in Higher Education. This legal document can be seen as the materialization of the multiple facets of the training policies, from the definition of competence and skills to the assessment of performance and curricular organization. The theme of assessment is assumed as closely linked to the issue of teacher training mainly because of the policies of teacher training and the adoption of the model of competence in the definition of the Brazilian Directives on Teachers' Initial Training for Basic Education in Higher Education. The creation of a federative system of teacher competence certification indicates that we are experiencing the process of flexibilization of teacher work, which jeopardizes the historical fight of educators for the professionalization of teacher training.
