Major depressive disorder in donor in the renal transplant: case study

Abstract

This study assessed the impact of cognitíve-behavioral intervention in a candidate to donor for renal transplant, attended at psychology service in a school hospital, in the State of São Paulo. The subject was a 37 year old woman, with incomplete elementary education, manicura, married, with two children. Her main complaint was to have feelings of guilt and sadness, crying, insomnia, reduction of verbal behavior and aloof from social situations, after her donation condition had been suspended the kidney to her brother, who was in hemodialitic treatment. Sixteen thirty minutes weekly sessions were made, half-directed interviews were used, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), state- Trait Anxiety Inventory (IDATE), Life Historical Questionnaire and cognitive-behavioral techniques were applied the diagnostical hypothesis was Major Depressive Transtorn, second episode, severe level, associated with anxiety symptoms. The results demonstrated the remission of depressive state and improvement of anxiety symptoms and identification of disfuncional thoughts which interfered on her interpersonal relationship and guilt for non donation.
