Moments of intense communication between therapist and client: a phenomenological analysis of reports

The intense communication between therapist and client, experienced during the psychotherapy sessions, is described through the phenomenological analysis of therapists reports. Based on the Person-Centered Approach (PCA), with experiential focus and existential-phenomenological emphasis The phenomenological method applied to the clinical psychology research is used. The helpers are seven experts therapists, with humanistic orientation, from different parts of the country, who were asked the following: "Tell me a moment ofintense communication between therapist and client, experienced by you as therapist". Findings demonstrate that the intense communication is related to the therapeutic change, happening through a shared experience on the established relationship between therapist and client, where a co-experiencing occurs. The facilitating conditions for the occurrence of these mo- ments are the empathy as an attitude ofthe therapist as well as the client, inseparable of the authenticity and unconditional positive acceptance; the therapist and client feelings and expressiveness, and also the therapist sensitivity and capacity to comprehend what is been experienced.
