Working memory, mental retardation and learnin G difficulties

The working memory refers to the use of temporary storage mechanisms during the performance of more complex tasks. The studies of this subject show that individual differences in working memory might be related to the classical measurement of intelligence. Therefore, the present analysis tries to explain that such differences mar obey, among other things, the differences in the certain basic cognitive processes such as the speed of informative elements identification, or in strategi processes like the rehearsal use. This argument would be appropriate to explain the cases with cognitive deficits. However, the issue about work memory nature -if unitary or multicomponencial- is still to be solved.
