Monitor program for university education

The objective of this work was to investigate the contributions of a program offered to health monitors in undergraduate courses at a private university in the state of São Paulo. The study concentrated on the following categories: a) the clarification of the role and function of the monitor; b) their interest in an academic career. Nineteen monitors took part in the program, completing two similar questionnaires, at the beginning and at the end of the program, and they also provided written statements about the activity. Results indicate that, after the program, participants had a better understanding of the monitor's role and function, mainly with regard to the following points: a) the bond between monitors and lecturers; b) the importance of the emotional support given to the students by the monitor and the greater interest in an academic career.
