Open-access The role of the psychologist in vocational and technological education: Contributions of school psychology

Abstract

The Brazilian Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology offer courses for vocational training from secondary school to post graduation. And they also offer teacher training courses. In this context, the transformations on the vocational training, the students’ opportunities to choose different trajectories in their training and the academic community’s engagement in the educational process became subjects of the School Psychology. This study –a qualitative one– analyze school psychologists’ performance at a specific Federal Institute. The results revealed that the research participants have a generalist background in Psychology and graduate studies in Psychology and Education. It can be concluded that, because of such background, the participants performance was generally focused on support to the teaching and learning processes. On the other hand, some reports showed the participants intention to propose actions related, to some extent, to the Critical School Psychology approach.
