Nutrient Losses by Leaching in the Production of Australian Cedar Seedlings

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to quantify nutrient losses by leaching in the production of Toona ciliata seedlings in different substrate associated with the use of mineral fertilizer. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in a completely randomized design with three replications, in factorial arrangement with two substrates (commercial substrate and swine manure compost) and four doses of mineral fertilizer (0; 3; 6 and 9 kg m-3). In the course of 105 days we evaluated losses of N, P and K by leaching and end of this period we quantified growth and quality of seedlings. The commercial substrate contributed with reduced loss of nutrients through leaching and when combined with mineral fertilizer showed higher growth potential and seedlings quality compared to the compound of swine manure.
