The objective of this paper was to build a simplified regression model to estimate total volume whit bark per hectare for Eucalyptus spp plantations in the region of Campo Grande, in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul. The data set came from 356 plots of 600 m2 of area (20 x 30 m) of stands with ages ranging from 3 to 6 years old, measured in plantations areas with 67,600 ha, located in the Brasilian savana region.
Several regression models were tested to fit the relationship between volume per ha and some independent variable such basal area per ha, arithmetic mean of heighs, dominant heigh an interaction terms. A FORWARD regression procedure was used for such objetive.
The resulting regression model to estimate the total volume per hectare'and the adjusted equation were:
log V = β o + β i.log (G2 .hdom)
log V = (0,048143600 + 0,544347382.log(G2.hdom)).1,002557105
where:
V = total volume with bark in cubic meters per hectare
G = basal area in square meters per hectare
hdom= dominant height in meters, defined as average of heights of the 100 trees of largest diameter breast height per hectare.
