Physical and mechanical properties and preservation, with boron and tannin, of the Bambusa tuldoides (Munro)

Abstract

The purpose of this study was determinate a few physical-mechanical properties of Bambusa tuldoides and its durability to organism xilophagos when treated with boric acid and tannin. There were found specific gravity of 504 kg/m3 for node and 534kg/m3 for internodes. The partial volumetric shrinkage was 20,8% for node and 14% for internodes and 27% and 22,4% for total, respectively. The strength to the compression presented growing values in direction to the apex. The average of module of elasticity was of 23,887 MPa. The treatment preservative with boric acid 5% and tannin 1,2% was the most efficient in the laboratorial tests attempts and the CCB (chromated copper Borate) in the field conditions.
