Open-access Pop Culture and Catholic Evangelization: media disputes and transformations

ABSTRACT

This article analyzes how the entertainment industry influences the cultural expressions produced by Catholic agents, linking them to the sensibilities and discourses of pop culture. Based on cultural studies, it investigates the coexistence of hegemonic norms and alternative practices in media-based evangelization. The study concludes that Catholic conventions are contested and re-signified, shaping new aesthetic and discursive foundations for religious productions in the media.
