This article analyzes the relationship between the responsibilities of organizational units in new product development (NPD) and their improvement perception. The research was carried out in a functionally oriented company in which some improvement actions were performed. Some employees from the engineering, manufacturing and marketing departments were interviewed. It was found that improvement perception is driven by the functional department the individual belongs to. But, the role performed by the individual in NPD can better explain his/her perception about improvements.
