The objective of this study was to investigate the automation project management in the automotive industry through a case study in the PROJE-AUTO, an automation and industrial maintenance company. Firstly, a conceptual model including organizational learning in project management was developed. Next, the methodology steps of PMI® applied to automation project management in the company studied were investigated through two case studies: Robot Manipulator Design and Prensas Project. The case studies were carried out to investigate these projects and the context in which they are inserted in order to compare them with the reference model. After identifying their major problems and differences, a more adequate approach compared to that of the management model was proposed. It is believed that including the learning approach in the context of project management processes can enable companies to reap greater benefits than those derived from the implementation of a single project management methodology.
