Organizational Modeling: identifying organizational requirements for the development of information systems

Though technically correct, many information systems fail to meet the real needs of users in a business setting because information technology is often used only to automate the existing business processes and not to reformulate those processes with a view to meeting all the user's needs. In this context, this paper discusses various organizational modeling techniques, briefly compares these techniques, and gives a detailed description of the EKD - an organizational modeling method designed to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge about organizational and strategic structures. The method helps to grasp organizational requirements, enhancing comprehension of the domain and interaction with the user and enables to understand what the information system can do to improve the business.
