Information sharing as an element of production coordination in supply chains

This paper reports on a study of supply chain production planning in three distinct management and information-sharing scenarios, using an optimization model. The first scenario involves the use of only local information, while the second involves planning information scenario shared between company-client and company-supplier, and the third consists of global information sharing. This paper attempts to show how information sharing and coordination can improve overall supply chain performance. A technological tool to support communication among the members of the chain is also discussed.
