The objective of this article is to analyze data obtained from a higher education institution (HEI), and it is focused on the evaluation of the use of distance education or distance learning (DL) in the training of production engineers. This study highlights some issues such as the break of paradigms by the institution; the interest and availability of professors in this type of teaching; and the opinion of the students about the teaching-learning process. The analysis of data indicated the need to encourage reflection on the results. Thus, this research aimed at observing and investigating another HEI with consolidated distance learning structure and function. At first, there was interest in making a comparison between the two educational institutions, but the evaluation of the data suggested the effectiveness of DL in the teaching-learning process.
