ABSTRACT
This text presents the different ways in which ecological awareness is expressed in some texts of contemporary Latin American literature. Starting from the classic study of contemporary Ecology, Silent Spring (CARSON, 1962), it focuses on the emblematic vision of the bird in different dimensions of the imaginary:1) as a subject of scientific study of Ecology, 2) as a symbol of the crisis of the representation of reality in literature and art, and 3) as an agonizing consciousness that anticipates the destruction of the species through recent poetic works. This text aimes to show the historical depth of the thematization and problematization of South American nature with a critical and ecological perspective.
