Abstract
The work of Claude Lévi-Strauss was translated in a pioneering way and circulated widely in the Argentine intellectual culture of the 1960s and 1970s. However, its uses were not framed within the anthropological framework in the strict sense, but in more general debates on ideological problems within sociology, semiotic analysis and psychoanalysis. Without neglecting specific factors such as intellectual networks and the particular consolidation of disciplinary fields, this work intends to propose a hypothesis that focuses on a more general order: the relationships between the circulation of ideas and intellectual practices with the national ways of assuming the Otherness. Therefore, the particular circulation and uses of Lévi-Strauss in Argentina -in general, away from the issue of the really existing alterity that runs through his work- leads to reflexing on a tough relationship between Argentina’s dominant national narrative and the problem of cultural difference.
