Between meetings and documents: the demand for access to medical cannabis in Argentina

Abstract

This paper analyzes the way in which cannabis activists, legislators, and advisors collaborated in Argentina from 2016 to 2017 when the use of medicinal cannabis became a topic of public attention. For this purpose, an ethnographic approach was used to describe documentation and archiving practices of cannabis organizations; meetings between mothers of medicinal users, members of civil associations, politicians, and advisors; and the drafting and circulation of bills, particularly in the Legislature of the Province of Cordoba. This study focuses on the expertise and knowledge of activists and state agents/agencies that, along with my ethnographic practice, mutually construct and shape a political cause.
