In this article, the author recounts her participation in the new audit system, implanted by CAPES four years ago, to evaluate post-graduate programs in Brazilian universities. After describing different phases of the 1998 evaluation process, she raises certain questions as to the long-term influence of the new audit technologies on teaching and research.
