Anthropology and emotion: reflections on empirical fields, analitical perspectives and epistemological obstacles

Abstract

We have been teaching and carrying out research in the field of anthropology and emotion for several years now, giving seminars, discussing dissertations and convening panels in academic meetings. This article intends to reflect on the vicissitudes of this experience, paying special attention to the particularities and difficulties that arise in the first steps we take in the socio-anthropological study of emotion. Which are the recurring obstacles we run into when we start studying these topics? How can these obstacles relate to the construction of the field? Thus, this article intends to open an epistemological debate about how we carry out research in the field, as a way of keep securing the commitment for emotionality as an analytic tool.
