Playing at the Canaã occupation (MST - Federal District, Brazil)

Abstract

This article seeks to understand play in its endogeny (Mafeje, 1971, 1991). Playing dodgeball, the hide and seek, the dominoes with children who participate in occupations of Landless Workers’ Movement (MST), I seek to take seriously the conceptual meanings of café-com-leite, guardar caixão and licença. I argue that the way games are thought can change perspectives in anthropological discipline. The article was developed from an ethnography at the Canaã camp (MST), located in the Federal District, and in the occupation that the movement made in Praça do Buriti to pressure the Rollemberg government (2015-2018) for agrarian reform policies.
