Abstract
This article discusses how the formation of specialized professionals for exceptional education was thematized and represented, by the Federação Nacional das Associações de Pais e Amigos dos Excepcionais, between the 1960s and 1970s, in Brazil, from the historiographical perspective of the New Cultural History. As a source of research, we used the periodical publication Mensagem da Apae, the official publication of the Federation of Apaes, in its first ten years of existence (1963-1973). It could be concluded that this Federation and its affiliates sought to (through) form, through announcements of courses published in the form, a model of teachers and technicians specialized in the education of exceptional according to the instrumental rationality in force in that period.
