Open-access Memory and History of Work-Education - the Imposition of Work and the Denial of Education

ABSTRACT

The recovery of memory and the history of work-education is an ongoing process in Brazil, which is advancing as studies on the history of education are expanded to include the theme of work-education. In this text, we deal with two mediations, the imposition of work and the denial of education. We are based on the context as a social totality, the critique of political economy, the foundations of the world of work and the workers and the reflection on the present and past relationship, memory and history as the social production of existence. The main objective is to rescue studies of the history of work-education, first, of the education of poor children in correctional and educational institutions; second, professional and technical education in education systems. The subalternity of imposed work and the social limits of the education offered to workers' children are evident.
