Abstract
We aimed to analyze the memories of rural teachers from Escola Frei Anselmo, based in Linha Floresta community, in the countryside of Selback, in the North of Rio Grande do Sul, during the Brazilian Military Dictatorship (1964-1985). The chosen theoretical-methodological basis was Oral History through interviews. Such course shows debates regarding the application of memories as an investigative conception for studying the History of Education based on oral stories. Since there was no freedom to discuss politics at school and students were “disciplined” and not allowed to question the methodologies applied in the subjects included in the school syllabus, the faculty ended up being framed in the oppressive environment of the dictatorship, which brought serious consequences for achieving a democratic education.
