PROHIBITION OF READING AND REQUIREMENT OF TEXTS FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNGSTERS FROM MONTES CLAROS (1920-1950)

Abstract

This article aims to discuss representations of reading that circulated in Montes Claros and aimed to prescribe or prohibit texts aimed at children and youngsters from Montes Claros. The representations fall into two movements-on one hand, the construction of the relationship between teachers and students, books and readings, given the possibility of value inculcation, cultural development and learning. On the other hand, there is the defense of the prohibition of certain texts considered un suitable for readers who are being educated.
