Abstract
This article discusses possible uses and functions of the variety press of teaching potential of the photograph, considered a discursive sign of the statute should not be disconnected from the textual signs. This contribution discusses the studies in the history of education, suggesting theoretical and methodological literature produced from the field of humanities and discourse analysis paths. Has the specific example of the Revista do Globo, biweekly Rio Grande do Sul magazine, giving emphasis to the 1930s. Finally, the study claims the press of variety as one of many possibilities to study the institutions and school practices but also as an educational device reference and referential.
