The problems of sustainability are made a priority when the subject is the management of cultural heritage. However there is no consensus as to whether this solution is the best way to guarantee the preservation of its intangible cultural assets. Furthermore the expectations in this direction seem optimistic. The issue in question is: how far do public policies reach in their protection of the Brazilian heritage? And, what are their essential guidelines? Thusly, this article tries to comprehend how such policies appear in conjunction with proposals of international conventions devoted to this subject.
