Open-access Controversies and provocations surrounding the Brazilian Cinema’s Prêmio Resgate

ABSTRACT

This article proposes a reflection on Brazilian’ Prêmio Resgate do Cinema Brasileiro, an initiative responsible for reprogramming cinematographic production in the country using public funds at federal level after the dismantling of the sector carried out by the Collor de Mello government (1990-1992). In this effort, one intends to present an in-depth look at the competition process itself, highlighting the controversies generated through it among the class. It is assumed that, amidst the spirit of reconstruction of cinema motivated in part by economic improvements, the Prêmio Resgate will reveal conservative and contradictory aspects of the sector. It will even be the case of registering a feeling of mismatch between market and politics.
