ABSTRACT
This article presents a historical overview about the self-management system developed in Yugoslavia, ranging from its introduction in 1950 until its dismantling concomitant with capitalist restoration and the country’s disintegration in the turbulent years from 1988 to 1991. We highlight the positive economic results obtained at least until the introduction of the 1965 laissez-faire reform, as well the ambitious attempt to reshape the system in the 1970s, gradually challenged throughout the terminal crisis of the 1980s.
