The Catholic Church in Chile and the project of the Good Press: The experience in the Archdiocese of Santiago, 1906-1936

Inserted in the field of communicational history, this article questions the conditions and characteristics assumed in Chile the international initiative of the Good Press (BP), driven by the Vatican since the late nineteenth to mid-twentieth century. This article sustains the hypothesis that BP constituted an action of modernization of the global Catholic media, as well as an appropriate strategy for participation in the emerging communicational field where the disputes for influence and control of literate and non-literate public opinion began to arise in the early twentieth century in Chile. Finally, this release is the first part of a series of three papers on Chilean BP, where we will develop several empirical aspects of its implementation.
