Morality and justice in ancient history: Luciano de Samósata's "manual" on historiography

Luciano de Samosata’s How history should be written is the only known treatise on history from Antiquity. It was written in the context of the "historical" production spawned by Lucio Vero’ Parthian wars (second half of the second century A.D.). To underline the moral and political position of the historian - who must, above all, be just -, Luciano criticizes these flattering narratives and presents Thucydides as the model historian.
