From the construction to the installation of a city in the state of Pará: the creation of the city of Afuá

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the process of establishment of the small city of Afuá, located in the state of Pará, to understand its role for the regional economy, at that time, and how this economy contributed to the creation of a city. A conceptual literature about historical geography was used for the development of this article, following the historical method. The urban characteristics of Afuá, at the end of the 19th century, did not comply with Law no. 324 of July 6, 1895, published by the State of Pará, in opposition to the image of the city published in some media at that time. These descriptions led the reader to imagine an opulent city not consistent with its urban reality.
