ABSTRACT
This article discusses the mollusk community of Ilha do Cardoso, located on the southern coast of São Paulo, addressing three specific environments: mangroves, sandy beaches, and rocky shores. It highlights the diversity of mollusks in these environments, such as mangrove oysters, clams, cockles, periwinkles, limpets, sand clams, clams, and freshwater snails. These mollusks play a crucial role in the food chain and water quality. The sandy beaches of Ilha do Cardoso are rich habitats for mollusks, such as clams, periwinkles, and limpets. Rocky shores also harbor a variety of mollusks, including mussels, cockles, snails, octopuses, and others. These mollusks perform ecological functions and are also a food source for seabirds and coastal fish. Specific mollusk species found in each environment are mentioned, and the article discusses the ecological and economic importance of these animals. Additionally, it addresses the occurrence of exotic species on the island, emphasizing the need for more research on mollusk occurrence in their habitats, as well as highlighting the importance of conservation for biodiversity and the sustainability of local communities.
