Open-access Lamiales in a protected area of the Semiarid region of Paraíba State, northeastern Brazil

ABSTRACT

This study consists of a floristic and taxonomic survey of the species of Lamiales wich ocurr in the Olho d’Água das Onças Ecological Reserve, a Caatinga conservation area located in the municipality of Picuí, Paraíba. Fieldwork was carried out between August/2022 and October/2023 to collect botanical material and observe natural populations. Lamiales is represented by five families and 21 species: Acanthaceae (6 spp.), Bignoniaceae (5 spp.), Lamiaceae and Verbenaceae (4 spp. each), and Plantaginaceae (2 spp.). The species Mansoa paganuccii M.M.Silva, Lantana achyranthifolia Desf., and L. tiliaefolia Cham. are new records for the flora of Paraíba, in addition to expanding the distribution of Mansoa onohualcoides, recorded for the first time within the phytogeographic domain of the Caatinga.
