Aspects of natural regeneration and establishment of tree and shrub species in revegetated riparian areas along the Mogi-Guaçu River, São Paulo State, Brazil

Sampling of individuals from natural regeneration and of individuals planted with low diversity along Mogi-Guaçu River, São Paulo State, Brazil, was conducted in plots allocated in a gradient with different distances from the remaining fragment and the riverbank aiming to provide support for actions of revegetation and management of riparian areas in the study region. In this study, we performed counting and identification of trees and shrubs with DBH < 5 cm and height > 30 cm as well as phytosociological inventory of individuals with DBH ≥ 5 cm. Cluster Analysis with UPGMA method and Bray-Curtis index was used to compare the results of regeneration in the established gradients. We sampled 72 species of 33 families for 2,078 individuals with DBH < 5 cm and 43 species of 25 families for 666 individuals with DBH ≥ 5 cm; we observing low correlation between the gradients and the number of species and individuals registered in this study.
