Open-access Development and implementation of a virtual learning environment in health education: a design-based research experience

This study presents a Design-Based Research (DBR) experience in the context of two Psychology courses at a public University. Educational Technology researchers and their team along with Psychopathology professors worked collaboratively in the planning, development, and implementation of a virtual learning environment (VLE) aimed at supporting teaching-learning based on patients’ narratives about illness and treatment experiences. We analyzed all phases: definition of the problem and theoretical principles, and the intervention in real classrooms. Based on the analyses of the four DBR stages, it was possible to generate five design principles. Although these principles are anchored on the experiences of a specific group, they may contribute for future research.
