Abstract:
We analyze the relationship between participation in the communitarian activity, the Esteem for the Place Index, and the conscientization process among residents of a community threatened with expropriation in Fortaleza, Ceará. This is a mixed study conducted with 17 residents of the Vila Vicentina community (Fortaleza, Ceará), who responded to the Esteem for the Place Scale and participated, individually, in a semi-structured interview. Among the results, there is the organization of activities of I) rescue, preservation, and historical construction of the community; II) recreation; III) discussion and mobilization; and IV) dialogue with representatives of civil and legal society. The active participation reflected in I) higher potentiating esteem for the place; II) more engagement in the resistance itself and those of other communities; and, consequently, III) a higher openness to the conscientization.
