Abstract:
Starting from the analysis of the discourses produced regarding the implementation of the "modern" multinational Suzano Papel e Celulose, in the municipality of Imperatriz, MA, the research discusses the processes of invisibilization of the "other" in the discursive processes related to the "development". In order to do so, we use the contributions of authors such as Escobar (2005; 2007), Castro-Gómez (2005), Pinto and Mignolo (2015) and others who help us think about the tension between traditional knowledge and industrial modernity, about how important social actors and institutions stand on economic projects in the Maranhão Amazon.
